My DIY Beauty Secret.

As mention on the previous post, I'm gonna share with u guys some of my favourite DIY that actually works and does not burn your pocket.

Well, in fact I'm not the person who was all "cray-cray" for DIY Beauty recipes. It started out with my MOMA. yes, my mom :) She's very into making DIY Fruits & Veg Enzymes which pack a punch with tons of beauty and health benefits.

Just a little extra info for those who wants to venture out on DIY Enzymes :-

  1. You have to use purely glass containers to allow the fruits or veg to fully "decay" and not destroy the enzymes.
  2. You have to ensure everything you used to prepare the enzyme cannot touch water. If you gonna wash ANYTHING i.e fruits, knife etc please make sure u dry it using kitchen towels.
  3. Do not use plastic to scoop the liquid out, only use ceramic or stainless steel prouducts.

So moving on, my personal DIY Beauty secrets (or maybe not a secret to a lot of you out there)....

1.DIY Honey & Brown Sugar Wash Off Pack.

The brown sugar wash off pack from skinfood are great BUT very pricey in Singapore. (I know you can get it way cheaper online but DIY was even cheaper)

So I decided to make it myself instead of store bought ones as they do contains some other chemicals.

All you need is 3 base ingredient.

  • 2 Tablespoon of refined brown sugar.
  • 1 Tablespoon of Organic Manuka Honey or Any organic honey or Raw Honey (I recommend Organic and raw because its the purest form of honey out there)
  • 1 capsule of Vitamin E oil (or if you do have Vitamin E oil in bottle form you can put 3 drops or so)
If you gonna make bigger batch just remember the ratio of brown sugar to honey is 2:1. Vitamin E oil you can put like 2 more capsule. :) but this is my way of how I prefer my scrub to be you can go ahead to add more sugar or honey depend on how abrasive you would prefer. All you need to do is to mix them well and put inside a glass container.

I really don't wanna bore you guys with all the science stuff but I do wanna bring up some skincare benefits of each ingredient.

Refined Brown Sugar- Brown Sugar itself helps to exfoliating the skin, cleans and tightens pores giving the skin a more even uniform appearance; pores look smaller, skin tone more even. It can also diminish the damage to the skin caused by acne and other skin conditions.Using a brown sugar scrub improves your skin's ability to retain its natural moisture balance.

Honey- Honey allows your skin to attract and retain moisture for the skin, it has anti inflammatory benefits thus this is great for people who has acne prone skin like me :) At the same time honey is a little sticky thus it adhere on to the skin better.

Vitamin E Oil- Vitamin E promote skin renewal and protect your skin from free radicals as it is an antioxidant. Reason being why I choose this over other oil is that its a natural preservative !:) thus you can store this longer.

How to store and use it ? :-

  • With Vitamin E you can store this in your fridge and last you about a month or so (I like my batch to be fresh )
  • After cleansing your face with warm water, apply a generous amount on to your skin and leave it on for 15 min. After that gently massage your skin (this helps in exfloliating) and wash off with cold water.

I love this scrub a lot as it is cheap and effective thus after using it for some times I added some other additional ingredient to make it even better.

  • 1 tablespoon of green tea.
  • 1 tablespoon of Shea butter (For body scrub)
  • a few drops of tea tree oils.
  • 1 tablespoon of Cacao powder

2. DIY Lush-inspired Face Mask.

Well, I came up with this recipe when I popped by LUSH and manage to try some similar mask samples. Its SUPER EXPENSIVE (in my point of view) so I decided to see if I can duplicate it :P  This was different from the one in LUSH but this work really well for me and my friends.

So for this it's a little bit more complicated then the honey and brown sugar pack but It works super well :)

Ingredient List :-
  • 1 Tablespoon of Raw/Organic Manuka Honey or any other honey.
  • 4 Tablespoon of Organic Oatmeal or any Oatmeal you can find (but must be unflavored), make sure you blend it with a blender or food processor to make the oatmeal particle smaller but not making it into powder form.)
  • 1/2 piece of  a Ripe Avocado. (Remove the seed)
  • Fresh Mint Leaves (If you can stand the smell of it you can add more, if you can't then about 5 to 8 pieces I usually add like 15 pieces)
  • 1/2 piece of a Ripe Banana
  • 3 capsule of vitamin E oil
I know there's a lot of ingredient but hey it is still cheaper than buying from LUSH. Total cost I spend making this was like :SGD$ 12 (excluding honey, vitamin e oil). What I did was to blend everything (except the oatmeal which you kind of semi blend it to make them "smaller" so that it will not be so messy when you apply and it will adhere better as it dries up) with my food processor and it will turns out as a paste.  Once you are done add in the oatmeal into the mixture.

Okay some quick skincare benefits of the ingredient (you can google it up if you wanna know more benefit for each of them)

Oatmeal- Works as an ultra gentle exfoliater, soothe sensitive and irritated skin, helps to fade off scars.

Avocado- Pack with Vitamin K and E and anti oxidants helps to fight free radical, heals scar and promote skin renewal, fade spots, prevent premature aging, repair skin cell etc, its benefit can go on and on

Mint Leave- Miracle herb for acne prone skin, a natural detox agents, cleanser, and skin soother for sensitive and oily skin. It helps with reducing blackhead and also minimizing your pore size. The minty feeling also helps to calms your skin down :)

Banana- Pack with Vitamin C and antioxidant, helps in hydrating and brightening your skin :)
(Yes to Minion).

How To Store/ Use: -

  • Store this in your fridge and use it as often as you like as this is quite soothing, personally I used it every other day.
  • This can store up to 1.5 month. (about 6 weeks)
  • After cleansing your face with warm water, apply a generous amount on to your skin and leave it on for 35 min. After that gently massage your skin (this helps in exfloliating) and wash off with cold water.
I know to some people out there it's too much of a hassle to make all this but hey, its like making food, food for your skin. Would you prefer to eat things that like with so much of chemical or things that's more natural or from scratch.

I love DIY Mask for the fact their are quite cheap most of the time and also you know what are inside the mask.

Do try it out and let me know if this work. :P Loves.... Share with me what's your favourite mask and why :)

XoXo,
Vivian <3
